Dunkirk Animal Clinic Boarding Tips

Your pet must be up to date on its vaccinations. This includes Rabies and Distemper parvo for dogs and Rabies and Feline Distemper/Feline Leukemia for cats.

If your pet has the sniffles or isn't feeling up to par, find out whether special arrangements will have to be made in boarding before you arrive with your pet.

Leave a phone number where you can be reached in case of a special situation, as well as the phone number of an alternate contact in case you can't be reached immediately. Also, provide the name of someone who is authorized to approve of special care if the need arises.

Before you check in your pet for boarding, mention any potential problem which might affect other pets. Remember, when pets are boarding there is always a chance that they can catch an upper respiratory infection (a cold, in other words) from other pets even when kenneled separately.

If your pet is on regular medication of any kind, leave instructions when you check in your pet.

If your pet develops a medical problem while boarding, Dr. Carlson will examine and treat your pet accordingly.

If your pet hasn't had a fecal check in a year, or if your pet develops any bowel problems we recommend having your pet tested while being boarded.

Your friend can be brought in or picked up for boarding between the hours of 8:30 -- 6:00 Monday through Friday, and 9:00 -- 3:00 on Saturday while our office is open.

Sunday pick-ups are available the hours of 9:00 -- 10:00 and 3:00 -- 4:00 if previous arrangements have been made. Not on holidays, however.

We provide quality pet foods for your friend. However, if you wish, you may supply your pet's own food.

Please make sure that a collar and a leash accompany your dog for walking purposes. Cats should be brought in a pet carrier for safety purposes.

We provide separate boarding rooms for cats and dogs.

Once you are back home, give your pet time to settle down before giving any food or water. Some pets want to gorge on food when they're excited, a situation which can lead to an upset stomach.
